Weatherization
DICSA serves residents of Dickinson, Iron, Alger, Marquette, Gogebic, and Ontonagon Counties with Weatherization.
The Dickinson Iron Community Services Agency (DICSA) coordinates a local weatherization program to assist income eligible households (home owners and renters) with reducing their heating costs. A computerized energy audit determines the type of measures to be addressed, then licensed and insured contractors complete the work.
In addition to the improvements made to the home, you will receive energy education from the housing staff of DICSA. The educational information will provide you with the ideas on how to keep your energy costs down all year.
There are no costs involved and it is easy to get the help you need to save money all year round!
If your home was weatherized within the past 15 years, it is not eligible.
Typical Items Addressed
- Wall insulation
- Attic insulation
- Floor insulation
- Duct sealing/insulation
- Infiltration - caulking, weather stripping, door sweeps, etc.
- Blower-door testing
- Health safety - dryer venting, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide testing, gas appliance safety and efficiency testing, etc.
- Roof repair

Contractors & Inspectors
DICSA utilizes contractors and inspectors for our Weatherization (Wx) Program. All training is provided. Contractors will do things like wall and attic insulation, caulking/weather-stripping, and duct sealing. Inspectors are typically independent contractors and would either do a pre-inspection or post-inspection on each home.
Weatherization is funded by the US Department of Energy and is the nation’s largest whole-house home energy upgrade program.
